AI ReWrite: Science Fiction Moon Trip inspired by Dr Seuss
In the latest offering in my ongoing AI Rewrite series, I’ve decided to have the AI (ChatGPT 3.5) attempt a child friendly SF style inspired by Dr Seuss. This time I have given an author name and a specific book. I did attempt this multiple times with different Dr Seuss books and, while all results were ‘okay’, I thought this was the best (I appologise for the formatting, it’s a limitation of Substack. I would prefer to break it up more like a poem).
If you’re coming to this series late, I’m experimenting with ChatGPT-3.5 (the free version) to see what its uses might have as an author aid. To do that, I’m interested in having it use classic stories and themes from well-known novels and rework them into the introduction of a science fiction story and then judge the result. I do intend to review and incorporate some of the other story-writing AI tools in future posts.
Now, without further ado… here’s the prompt and the result.
Write a science fiction story about characters who go to the moon, in the style of Dr Seuss's story Red Fish, Blue Fish.
On a rocket so bright, with Ellie and Flynn, They soared through the stars, oh, where to begin? Moon-Mice and Moon-Bats, they found with a grin, On the moon's surface, their adventure did spin.
Flynn wore a hat made of twinkling stars, Ellie had shoes that played cosmic guitars. Moon-Queens and Moon-Cakes, under moonlight bars, In a lunar wonderland, they traveled like czars.
With a bounce and a hop, in the moon's gentle pull, They danced on the surface, feeling so cool. Moon-Pies and moonbeams, as bright as the wool, In their cosmic adventure, where dreams were in full.
The Moon-Queen invited, "Come, have some tea, In our moonlit kingdom, where laughter is free. Moon-songs and moon-tales, for you and for me, In this celestial joy, forever we'll be."
Moon-Mice played trumpets, Moon-Bats sang a song, As Ellie and Flynn danced all night long. On the moon's surface, where they did belong, In a whimsical world, where nothing went wrong.
But alas, the time came to bid their adieu, To the Moon-Queen's kingdom, so shiny and new. With moon memories and a sky so blue, Ellie and Flynn bid the moon crew adieu.
Back on their rocket, so brilliantly hued, With stars in their eyes and a moon attitude. Moon dreams and moon tales, forever renewed, In the hearts of two friends, on adventures pursued.
What do you think? Does it sound ‘Seuss-y’?Let me know in the comments.
I’d love to hear your opinions, both good and bad, on what ChatGPT-3.5 has written.
Is it disturbing that it compiles such a compelling imitation, or is it so bad you don’t know what the hype is about?
How would you rate it out of 10?
Does it sound like something you’d be interested in reading or sharing?
If you’d like to take up the challenge using the prompt and would like to share your chapter for comparison, I’d be happy to post it.
As we’re looking at how AI might be an author aid, I think for the next part of the experiment I’ll have the AI generate story outlines, instead of writing prose. So, if you have an idea for creative genre/sub-genre combinations (as long as the main is SF), I’d love to hear them.
And until next time…
Good health, good friends, good fortune.
